Jim Anton is an award winning bassist , composer and educator living in the twin cities. He is currently touring with A&M recording artist Jonny Lang. Jim can be heard on Jonny’s 2006 Grammy Award winning album Turnaround. He has also performed and recorded with Greazy Meal, former Time guitarist Jesse Johnson, Peter Ostrushko, Steve Tibbetts, Ruth MacKenzie’s “Kalevala”, Dean Magraw, Glen Phillips, The Jayhawks, John Gorka, Evan and Jaron, Mandy Moore, and Har Mar Superstar. Jim has shared the stage playing bass with Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Indigo Girls, Paul Westerberg, Greg Brown, Bernard Purdie, Jack McDuff, Lowen and Navarro, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Andrew York, and former Tonight Show band leader Doc Severenson.
He also performed on the soundtrack for the Oscar winning film Monsters Ball. Jim’s rich interest in world folk music is evident in the unique sound of his bands Eighthead,Beat The Clock,Greazy Meal, Ourmine, BMF, and Chutney Martini, as they combine musical traditions from West Africa, India, Latin America and American blues, soul gospel and jazz.
